Potluck Child Safety Standards
Potluck is a social step challenge app made by Heather Hua. These standards explain how Potluck prevents and responds to child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Potluck has zero tolerance for CSAE. These standards apply to everyone who uses Potluck and to everything shared in it.
What's prohibited
- Any content or behavior that sexually abuses, exploits, or endangers a child (anyone under 18).
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, edited, or AI-generated images.
- Sexualizing a child in text, photos, GIFs, usernames, or profile photos.
- Grooming: befriending or contacting a child to set up sexual contact or abuse, on Potluck or anywhere else.
- Asking a child for sexual images, sexual conversation, or an in-person meeting.
- Sextortion: threatening to share intimate images, or demanding images, money, or anything else under that threat.
- Trafficking, advertising, or offering a child for sex.
- Sharing links to CSAM, or offering to trade or sell it.
Where these standards apply
- Everywhere in Potluck: usernames, display names, profile photos, chat messages (text, photos, and GIFs), trade posts and comments, challenge titles, and posts.
- Direct messages are only possible between friends or people in a challenge together, so strangers can't message you out of nowhere.
- When you block someone, they can't start a direct chat with you.
Reporting in the app
- To report a chat message or trade comment, press and hold it and tap Report. To report a person, open them from a challenge's participant list and tap Report.
- A reported message or comment is hidden from the chat right away, before we review it.
- You can block the person from the same menu. Blocked users are listed on the Friends page in the menu, where you can unblock them.
How we respond
- Child safety reports are reviewed before all other reports.
- Any account involved in child sexual abuse or exploitation on Potluck is banned immediately and permanently, and its content is removed. Banned accounts can't sign in.
- We report apparent CSAM and child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through its CyberTipline, as US law requires, and to other law enforcement where appropriate.
- We cooperate with law enforcement investigating child safety.
Laws we follow
- Potluck complies with applicable child safety laws, including the US federal requirement for online services to report CSAM to NCMEC (18 U.S.C. § 2258A).
Reporting by email
You can also email huatbiz@gmail.com with the subject line "Potluck child safety report". Include the username and what happened. Don't attach or forward images of abuse: tell us where to find them in the app instead.
If a child is in danger
If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number first.
In the US, you can report child sexual exploitation directly to NCMEC at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678. Outside the US, contact your local police or a hotline listed by INHOPE.
